3 reels. Correspondence, diaries, financial records, surveyor's notes, steamboat sketches, and manuscripts of writings on the steamboat, the Universal Society, and chemicals. Fitch was an inventor who provided the first passenger service on the Delaware River via a steamboat. Also includes small selection of the papers of the architect, William Thornton (1759-1828). Originals are in the Library of Congress.
